Abraham Lincoln signed documents are rare and quickly sell despite their expense. There is no limit to the collectibility of Lincoln signatures.

The document shown above was signed by President Lincoln on January 7, 1862. It sold for $15,000.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, from 1861 until his death on April 15, 1865.

By winning the Civil War and emancipating the slaves Lincoln assured himself of being one of the most important persons in American history.

That importance is reflected in the price of the few documents bearing his signature that come up for sale.

Abraham Lincoln Civil War Document

This September 14, 1863, Civil War era document is an order regarding the draft. It sold for $14,700 and reads:

I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America and Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy therof, having taken into consideration the number of volunteers and militia furnished by and from the several States, including the State of New York, and the period of service of said volunteers and militia since the commencement of the present rebellion, in order to equalize the numbers among the Districts of the said States, and having considered and allowed for the number already furnished as aforesaid, and the time of their service aforesaid, do here by assign One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty five as the first proportional part of the quota of troops to be furnished by the Eleventh District of the States of New York, under this, the first call made by me on the State of New York, under the act approved March 3, 1863, entitled 'An Act for Enrolling and Calling out the National Forces, and for other purposes,' and, in pursuance of the act aforesaid, I order that a draft be made in the said Eleventh District of the State of New York for the number of men herein assigned to said District, and Fifty Per Cent, In Addition.

This fabulous looking document from 1891 sold for $13,000.

This presidential document was for the military appointment of an officer. Such documents were much more impressive in the 19th century than they are today.

Any document more than 150 years old will be valuable. For it to be signed by President Abraham Lincoln makes it a treasure.

On July 16, 1862, President Lincoln appointed George Storer as a rear admiral in the navy.

150 years later this document sold for $10,000.


Although expensive, to have a rare piece of history such as a document signed by Abraham Lincoln, any document, is a treasure to be proud to own.
