The Resolute Desk is a massive desk and symbol of power used by most recent presidents in the oval office of the White House. It is intricately carved with hidden drawers and features. It is also known as the Presidents Desk.
Why is it called the Resolute Desk?
The desk was created from the timbers of the British HMS Resolute and given to President Rutherford Hayes as a gift by Queen Victoria. The HMS Resolute was exploring the arctic when it became trapped in ice and had to be scuttled. When the ship was recovered a couple years later part of it was made into this famous desk. Two other desks were made from the Resolute ship wreckage and are now in museums.
