GLADYS ESPERANZA CRUZ vs. ROSE ANGEL CANDIA - Fred Hanassab we believe is the attorney of record for the plaintiffs according to the Los Angeles County online case summary.
Huge sanctions of $2377.50 are being ordered regarding attorney Fred Hanassab and/or his clients in a tentative ruling by a Los Angeles County judge.
From the ruling this is what happened:
An amazing NINE motions to compel were filed against Fred Hanassab, Esq.'s clients to answer questions in discovery.
Note: This is one of the most, if not the most, number of discovery motions we have seen filed in a case for a hearing on one day against a party.
Defendants served discovery on plaintiffs' counsel.
Defense counsel then apparently sent at least two or three letters to attorney Hanassab to meet and confer about the discovery.
For unknown reasons the judge indicates Hanassab did not respond to any letter.
Finally, defendants filed their motions to compel.
The situation was so bad that Fred Hanassab did not bother filing an opposition to any motion.
The result was predictable:
For some defendants the judge sanctioned Hanassab's clients $617.50 and ordered them to answer all discovery, without objection, within ten days. It is possible Fred Hanassab will be paying this amount for his clients.
For the other defendants attorney Fred Hanassab and his clients were then sanctioned an additional $1760 and ordered to pay this amount within twenty days. Unless the final ruling is different from the tentative ruling, which is doubtful since Hannasab did not oppose the motions, this is what attorney Fred Hannasab will be personally liable to pay as a sanction for misconduct.
Total sanctions: $2377.50.
